The Library    

The Miguel de Cervantes Digital Library, opened in July 1999, is an ambitious project of digital publication of the bibliographical, documental and critical heritage of the Spanish and Latin American culture.

This initiative, carried out by the University of Alicante and the Banco Santander Central Hispano, in collaboration with the Fundación Marcelino Botín, tries to promote the sum of efforts and projects by other public and private institutions interested in the study and spread of the Spanish and Latin American culture.

The Miguel de Cervantes Digital Library is a bibliographical and documental fund which, thoughout the use of new technologies, is freely available to the internet users with the aim of spread the most significant works and documents of this culture.

The catalogue of the Miguel de Cervantes Digital Library aims to compile the most outstanding works of the Spanish and Latin American literary tradition, as well as all the bibliographical resources necessary for a better critical and historical understanding.

In the same way, there is room for the documental and bibliographical funds related to the Spanish and Latin American history.

Finally, with the collaboration of authors and publishing houses, we also try to add the last literary productions, by means of their digital edition and the promotion of the bibliographical news.

The Miguel de Cervantes Digital Library is addressed to those people wishing to know or to research into the Spanish and Latin American culture, specially in its literary and historic aspects.

The scientific rigour of the library and the effectiveness of its electronic spread is responsibility of a large team managed by university professors and researchers, opened to the collaboration of everyone interested in the knowledge and diffusion of Spanish and Latin American culture.

The Miguel de Cervantes Digital Library is an international project because of the origin of its funds and associated institutions as well as the wish to spread the Spanish and Latin American culture through the virtual space.
